Golden milk is popular in the West and it is nothing but our good old turmeric milk which is more commonly known as haldi doodh. Turmeric for weight loss? Lose weight with turmeric? Turmeric is now the super food everybody is searching for. It seems starbucks starting selling it as "golden milk" and they even have golden milk latte and fraps!
Turmeric is one spice which we Indians cannot do with out and I am sure not a single Indian kitchen lives without it. We grew up on turmeric milk which our grannies used to say as "haldi doodh". And I know most of you may even have a faint memory of drinking it at one point in your childhood, especially if you live in India.
So what is the big thing about turmeric now? why is it suddenly on the health food shelves? why is turmeric the most search word on google?
Turmeric is referred as the "queen of spices" because of its many health benefits. It has been used in India for thousand of years as a remedy for cold and flus and is an active ingredient in Ayurvedic remedies.
It has both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. It is used to relieve swelling, joint pains and also has anti-bacterial properties when applied to small cuts and wounds.
Turmeric is a "natural detoxifier", it helps to detoxify the liver, helps to break down abdominal fat cells and helps in weight - loss, fights depression, prevents cancer, heart burn etc....
The main ingredient of turmeric is curcumin and it is very effective in relieving joint pain, muscle pain, swelling associated with various forms of arthritis. Having turmeric will help to manage arthritis pain and stiffness.
Turmeric is 5-6 times stronger than vitamin C & E and hence it boost immune system.
Turmeric helps to melt stubborn belly fat by increasing the flow of bile in the stomach which helps to break down fat that cause you to gain weight.
Having said all the goodness, it is important to note that to get turmeric absorbed faster into the body you need to have a fat pinch of pepper along with it as pepper is one ingredient that helps to absorb the turmeric faster.

If you are a regular reader, then you might have noticed that I always use turmeric in my curries and dishes and sometimes I even say that I add turmeric purely because of its health benefits.
Try to include this wonderful spice in your daily life and reap its benefits but make sure you use good quality turmeric.
Also, note that if you are making with fresh turmeric root then you need to boil it along with the milk for the curcumin to be activated. Turmeric powder gives more heat to the body than fresh ones.
So enjoy a glass of turmeric milk and sleep better and get good complexion.
